All About Food?
Denise >
Here at The Big Garden, it’s not all about food. Is it, Tilly? What’s that … you just want to play with it? Hmmm.
Tilly’s very good with sheep, geese, hens … but when it comes to chicks, goslings and ducklings … well, her face here says it all!
The shallotts have been our first clear-the-ground harvest of 2017. Gooseberry-picking will continue for several weeks. But, at this time of year, The Big Garden seems to be mostly about weeding!
Harvesting your own….that’s what it’s all about!! We’re about to be flooded here with food brought in from the gardens, now the canning, freezing, and pickling begins! What is your favorite way to use the gooseberries? Enjoy! Enjoy!
I would LOVE to have some gooseberries.
Keep that baby away from Tilly–her intentions are NOT honorable! Your pesto pasta lunch looks SO good!
Good crop there. What variety is that? We’ve had very little saw fly this year on ours. Usually I will have been picking them off by now, but I’ve only had a couple of leaves which I caught early on.
D > This is just the start: we grow a LOT of gooseberries! We’re not sure what variety, but could be Black Velvet. Yes, agree, not so bad sawfly this year.
Those green berries, what are they called? I had some once as a child but can’t remember the name. Enjoyed the photos.
D > Gooseberries! Later pickings of this variety will be deep red – and sweet. This batch are perfect for jam-making.
Thank you. Thought that might be what they were called. I have not seen any in YEARS!
