Morning Light
Jonathan & Denise >
With the sun, day by day, sailing ever higher, and with a length of arc ever greater, the Spring Equinox is very soon followed by another natural phenomenon – at least, one specific to our walled garden : morning light at the back of the house – which faces almost exactly north.
In theory, this event occurs a day or two after the spring equinox ; but in practice it depends on the weather. The past three to four weeks have been windy, wet and above all cloudy and grey. This morning, though, broke dry, still and clear-skied : the first peeking of the sun over Eiseabhal (and, of course, the high garden wall) was from just north of east, lighting up the back of the house, and flooding the kitchen with golden light.
It will be late September when the back of the house falls back into perpetual shadow – until the following Spring.
What a lovely picture of rare morning light. Just beautiful!
A lovely way to mark time. Much as our ancestors would have done.
