So goes the old saying : Penny plain, tuppence coloured, and well worth the difference! These colours are not from plants or other natural sources of colour, they are (believe it or not) from an American brand of soft drink (sold in powdered form), which are well known for their colour-fastness. When I first tried this method, some years ago now, it was just to satisfy my curiosity. However, the results were successful enough for me to offer most of the skeins in the Hebridean Woolshed’s garden shop … and over time yarns dyed by this method have proved to be far more popular than I might have imagined. J and I prefer the more subtle hues of natural dyes, it’s true ; but we completely understand the pleasure it gives to some knitters – generally the more experienced and creative knitters – to work with a yarn that is as colourful and unique as they are themselves.
These art yarns are in skeins of 50g each, dyed over natural white Cheviot, 3-plied Aran-weight. Cost is £9 each (plus p+p). If you’re interested in buying these, contact us and we’ll send you detailed photos of what is available.
