In Navarra it’s high summer, very high temperatures, and high time for a fiesta.
Our Navarrese family’s home village of San Martìn de Unx stands high up at a strategically important pass between two valleys.
And at the San Martìn fiestas, as in so many other towns and villages throughout Navarra, high up above the throng of fiesta-goers are the heads of the gigantes – in this case there are two kings and two queens. Traditionally, the the gigantes y gigantonas [giants and giantesses] walk – or even dance – thanks to a burly-built human inside each of them!
Here, our son-in-law Ion is introducing our grandson Enaut to the gigantes, which seem to leave him awe-struck with wonder!
