Gathering Creels, Cille Bhrighde
Jonathan >
It’s more than a fortnight since we returned to Uist, and my post about the second month in Navarra is still churning around in Drafts : I just can’t seem to find the mental space to filter and sort the photos and the reflections, and anyway that’s the kind of post that never gets my fingers flying across the keyboard. This post is the very opposite : on our way to the Co-op in Daliburgh (and to open up Eight Askernish for the arrival of guests staying there through Christmas and New Year), towards the end of an exceptionally fine still winter’s day, I pulled over at the roadside, grabbed the camera – and as soon as I could find a moment to process it …
Isn’t a creel some sort of net or basket for carrying fish that have just been caught, or hauling rocks, food or whatever one needs to transport, on a cart or on your back?
Or am I totally messing this up? Cuz I know I could be getting it all wrong!
J > it’s both those, plus (similar to the second) baskets as panniers either side pf a pony or mule. In this case it’s for catching lobsters.
