Denise: Haven’t we used that post title before? Possibly, I just suspect, when some goslings were hatched a previous year? Or perhaps it was Goslings a -go-go? Anyway, this year – we have goslings. She herself in the barrel (previous blog) has delivered up – for the approval of her gander and the public at large – nine plump little greeny-yellow goslings. Their father has been showing them off to anyone and everyone – but hissing at anyone everyone all the same. You want photos? Ask J – I’m busy back at HQ making jams.
By the way, ‘galore’ – meaning plentful – is from the Gaelic ‘gu leor’ which strictly means enough or sufficient, but as the Hebridean Gaels are rather given to under-statement, dry wit and drollery in general, is used also to mean more than enough, a generous supply, or even an eye-widening abundance. Hence the title of Compton Mackenzie’s comic novel Whisky Galore!
