Kilbride Hostel – Counting Down The Days
Jonathan >
Next door to the walled garden – just across the narrow lane that leads to the foot of Beinn a’ Choire – is the Kilbride Campsite, a development by our neighbour DJ that we encouraged, and indeed I provided the technical designs and advice during construction. On the same site, there’s also the Kilbride CafĂ© and – after a delay of a year or two – there will soon be the Kilbride Hostel, which is now substantially complete, with work continuing indoors during the winter. (The ground-source under-floor heating is working – so it’s nice and warm and dry in there!)
DJ has taken booking from guests keen to stay at the hostel in early summer this year : so, if he isn’t doing so already, he’ll soon find himself counting down the days!
I imagine you may find yourselves selling from your croft store to a few more customers with business coming to you from hikers or those sightseeing!
J & D > You’re absolutely right there, Sheila. This is one of the reasons why we encouraged DJ to develop the site. And of course J designed it for DJ. Cille Bhrìghde / West Kilbride has gone from somewhere that visitors just drove by mostly without even noticing, to one of the principal destinations in Uist. Which tells you a lot about how small our economy is, here!
